I love the AIGA - Be Connected!
As an example of my leadership skills and service I thought I would post about my activity in the Detroit chapter of the AIGA.
Being a member of a professional organization is one of my favorite things.
In 2012, I joined the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and started a small student chapter at Oakland Community College at the Orchard Ridge campus. It never got enough population to become official, but it was the first time we had a chapter there in the Graphic Design department with elected student officials!
I am proud to say that I was elected and also tried my best to get other students involved. The Detroit chapter holds so many cool webinars and portfolio reviews of which I assisted in planning of when elected officer. We held 3-4 events that year including the massive portfolio review day. We also organized with the other school chapters several professional office tours of local agency and design firms.
Here are a few shots from a variety of meetings, events, office tours, dinners and celebrations the Detroit chapter of the AIGA and our student group had. I am going to try to revive this chapter again now that I am enrolled again. It led to so many good connections for students.
At the 100th birthday of Detroit party, they had a live silk screeing table to make your own custom birthday posters! Now that's my kind of birthday party. Who needs cake when you can make something amazing.
Enjoy the slideshow. Keep on learning and networking.
